Turning Off the Update Notification

MiniMeters does not allow turning off the update notification.

The goal of MiniMeters is to be an affordable piece of software; accessible to as many people as possible. While weighing the options for copy protection in MiniMeters, I decided to simply enable the update checker in all cases.

The update notification becomes a form of lite copy protection; a share-deterrent.

Generally many programs have some form of copy protection whether it is a license key, online account requirement, or some sort of downloader for the app. In my experience these hurt the legitimate customer's experience but the pirate has a better experience. I instead opted for always checking for updates at launch. If you are a legitimate user you can simply download the latest update. Non-legitimate users will be forced to see the screen and have to wait for whoever their source is.
